Facebook and Google Bias

Two stories recently indicate or allege that the internet giants Google and Facebook have been presenting information in a way that reinforces the political views of the powerful people behind those companies.

For this discussion let's assume that it is true.

Newspapers, magazines and cable news networks have done this forever and it seems to be accepted.  Should Facebook and Google be held to a higher standard than "news" organizations? Why the fuss over this?  Opinions?

Honestly I don't know what to believe anymore. The only thing I TRULY believe is knowledge I gain first hand, and I take everything read in the media (print, online, or what have you) with a grain of salt. Seems like everyone has an agenda these days and spins things in whatever direction the seem fit to.
