Yup. Fantastic. Lapped Sagamore in the morning. Went to the peak in the afternoon... was a bit scraped off. Lapped Uncas rest of the the day. Uncas and Sagamore were the best they have been all year. Cover is getting very thin on the last 100' of vert on Arena but other then that everything is holding up well. Storm clouds rolled and and rain/sleet/snow hit us on the drive back to Saratoga. |

So cut back on the higher elevations and do more at the bottom. If spend is fixed, you get less total snow at lower elevations/warmer temps. How do you feel about walking the last few hundred feet to the Gondola at season end? Cool with that for blowing more at the Bowl? BR had the most snow when IT closed last year, but that was before the season ended. So blow less on BR and more in the Bowl? Reality is that you aren't going to run 14 lifts for the few hundred that are showing up at seasons end. Gore usually runs 4 at the end. Which 4 do you choose? I figured you'd have no interest in a fixed grip pod with partial snowmaking and a very modest lodge. There is hope for you yet! ![]()

I'm used to much nicer lodge, so the one at the ski bowl does seem pretty modest.

Sno, after the damage you described to MC's lifts (that other thread, a couple weeks back), I'm surprised the same thing doesn't happen with the lodges? The pictures don't show any evidence of maltreatment by NJ houligans. Or maybe the houligans limit their vandalism activity to nightime rides on the chairlifts where they can remain anonymous and the crime is "victimless."
As for the $12 million, I'd so much rather have $12 million in snowmaking upgrades (think what that would buy!) than a fancy lodge. Or maybe that 2-stage gondi connecting the Ski Bowl to Burnt Ridge to the main base. No? Regarding Stowe (Campy), if you stick to the Mansfield side there ain't nothin' fancy about it. All the fancy is over on the Spruce side. |

Hey its ABOUT the Mtn not the lodge .
![]() WE ski, we dont sit on our ass in the damn lodge . As long as the hill is great and the lodge is functional rather than opulent ( thats for pretenders not skiers ) , im happy . Clean the johns , serve decent skier food , keep the place friendly and clean and to hell with pretty , pretentious , opulence that only appeals to wannabees . Give me local , friendly ,clean and full of skiers who keep it real . You want pretty , go to. Your effin country club

True. It had been 14 yrs since I was at Stowe. I was just shocked at the Spruce side is all. Just seemed to take some of the soul out of Stowe for me. |

Sorry, but imo high-speed lifts take the charm out of skiing Nothing wrong with enjoying a nice lift ride with a pal |

12 mill on a lodge makes sense for this area (NYC metro). The hope here is to get the target consumer to buy a ski pass, get bored quickly of long lines and crowded runs and head to the lodge to spend lots of cash on food & beverage. Really this is a very nice restaurant with a small ski slope attached.

Sno-,
Let's hope you will someday boot up in a tent, skinny up to slide down, skillet fry brookies in bacon grease for lunch and repeat till beer-thirty. Ski you on the hill. |

If only we had a cam! Maybe they will take the old gondy house and turn it into the lodge of Sno's dreams then they will cover the thing in cams. And about the lodge... if you want that go out west. Go to Breck, Aspen, and Deer Valley. Enjoy yourself and your moneyectomy. If you want to find the good skiing, find the guys booting up in the parking lot or on the side of the road. Follow them. ...and I think this thread is now become "has the mounted melted yet? no? Great.". |
