I think when you get less snow you cut things closer to the ground.
Yes exactly. There was plenty to be found last weekend if you went exploring up high. It is tough not having some powder envy when you see the cats and VT scoring so big and we get half or less but still had a really fun weekend (mostly) in the woods. Gore is my home for better or worse for many reasons beyond just snowfall. I'd love to do a season or two at Sugarbush or even Killington but I just don't think its in the cards in the near future. I'll have to settle for days like this with an occasional jaunt east or south.
Saturday somewhere at Gore
Today I am amazed again at the laziness of the snow report. Surely there have to be more glades open than the exact set that were open on Sunday (minus Barkeater which WAS open but never made it on the report). Does anyone at the mountain realize that people actually check that thing to make a decision on whether to go to Gore or somewhere else?
Friday is superintendents day off for Saratoga Schools so I would expect a good turnout. Hopefully you weekday skiers leave some for the rest of us.
Today was epic. Wall to wall skiing. You could go pretty much anywhere you wanted to. Glades were exceptional. I thought that I had been transported out west with some of the powder that we found. Snowed all day. Better get it before it all disappears!
A great day at Gore today. All main lifts operational except for Ski Bowl. A few people I talked to said yesterday was a little more magical, but still great wall to wall skiing. Some guy on the gondola somehow knew how much I loved ice skiing, and suggested that I poach Hullabaloo which was in fact boilerplate ice at it's steepest spot. It was easy to avoid however by staying to skiers right, and hucking the ledge that sits just to the right of that steep spot. I also poached Fairview which was also boilerplate but had great snow on skiers left. I love Fairview for some reason, and couldn't let this season go without skiing it at least once. Everything else I skied today was open, and most of our runs included at least some quantity of glade skiing. Rumor was fantastic with great snow and almost no ice spots on the sides, and I lapped that a few times which I don't get to do a lot of days. Same guy on gondola strongly suggested to avoid S****Y S***T, so I did. Didn't see any other tracks in there today, probably for reason.
Gun Barrel, Double Barrel, Dark Side Glades, Upper Darby... were awesome. Kudos to the Gore Crew that cleaned the glades this year. Barkeater and Boreas were the best that I have ever seen!!! Powder up to your waist if you know where to look. Get it before it’s gone!!!
