But the GP conditions page says 5 lifts and 43 trails open! With a 24-48" base! |
After complaints about their lack of updating the web page on a timely basis they simply removed the date so its probably at least a day or 2 old... |
|
If the creek overflows, they are going to be in deep trouble. I just looked at the webcam again, and it's even higher than it was this morning.

I was told skiing was excellent over the weekend
Great job bouncing back GP

I ended up at GP this weekend, as I didn't necessarily want to drive in an ice storm any further than I had to. When I pulled in Friday night, the mountain was depressing looking, with brown everywhere, and not a speck of natural snow to be found. It looked nearly wiped out. However, they picked up about four inches overnight, and then another five during the day on Saturday. They are so darn lucky for the nine inches, as even with the new snow, there were some thin and bare spots. Skiing was great on Saturday with the new snow. They had one snow gun on Wendy's, and a half dozen or so on lower Zeus and Hercules all weekend. I'm not certain why they didn't have more guns blasting away, as the temps were ideal (-9 Sunday morning), and they are only one rainstorm away from a washout. Skiing on Sunday and today was equally as good. They did not run chair 2 all weekend, which I found odd, but they did open it today. Of course today was not nearly as crowded as Sunday, so I'm not certain what their rationale was. They ended up running both 1 and 1A on Sunday. I'm skiing again tomorrow, and then heading back home. It will likely be a ghost town, which is why I like GP. As suspected, their move to increase their trail count now has GP with the least percentage of open terrain of any ski area in the region or south. |

I went up with the kids yesterday, and conditions were great on Alpha and Karyotis (that's all the kids can handle right now). The recent snow definitely helped, but I think their commitment to snow-making this year definitely played a huge factor in keeping things skiing the way that did. Kudos to the hill guys.

I skied until noon today before heading home. They finally turned the lone gun off on Wendy's Way, still had a half dozen going on Zeus/Hercules, and had a few scattered guns taking care of some of Fridays rain damage. I wish they would have placed a few on the top of the Iliad, but I think they are just about done with snow making despite not having all of their snow making trails open.
Skiing was good today, and there was actually an OK turnout for mid-week. The Cornell team was out training. They also seemed to be working on the grooming of Odyssey a good chunk of the day. Only three chairs going, but that's about par. |

They?? ![]() Don't you mean "WE" are so darn lucky
|
Absolutely! |
|
Did anyone ski chair 5 today, and if so, how was it? I have this crazy idea that I can ski chair 5 and maybe Trojan at around 12:30 after my yoga class.

Mars Hill was great today. I has been getting better with every grooming!
|
|
Mars was so-so on Sunday afternoon. The skiing was decent out there but it's always better when skiers' right has more coverage. The top of Arethusa, right after the split looked skiable, but the coverage on the bottom by the lift was laughable.
More importantly, I saw the waffle shack was open. Did anybody happen to stop by there? |
I did stop by for a beverage. They do have a mini-menu, which includes waffles on a stick, french fries, and a few other items. I did not catch a glimpse of what the waffles entailed, but will likely try one next weekend if they are open. |
|
I heard the waffle dogs are bangin'
|
|
Hopefully the waffle dogs aren't the only thing they have going for them this weekend...anybody driven by in the last day or so? I'm thinking about stopping by Sunday for a few runs, but maybe not if it's going to be slush.

Still full with snow
They were puttin it right to Illiad ---- massive whales up and down the entire trail |

Skiing was descent on Saturday, but they lost quite a bit of snow since last weekend. I couldn’t believe how much they lost. Of course, there never was that much to begin with.
Today was spring skiing, as it froze up overnight. They did a little grooming, but it was primarily frozen with ice chunks/golf balls. I’m sure it softened as the temps rose, but I had to catch a flight, so only a dozen or so runs in the morning. Given, their next to nothing bases, now they can pay staff to set up snow making equipment once again. About the only trail with descent coverage was the Odyssey because they actually made enough snow on it from the start. It was closed yesterday, but I snuck a run down it. Today it was closed for a race, so not sure how it held up from Saturday’s warm temps and rain. I may hit Killington next weekend to afford GP some time to recover. I keep telling myself that it’s still early in the season, so we have plenty of time. |

Does anyone know about the white groomer Greek has? Someone said Greek has it on a tryout basis to see if they want to buy it.

It's a Zamboni. |
