What is the Point of the Statute of Limitations?

If you committed a crime more than a certain number of years ago, they can't get you for it. And it only applies to certain crimes. What is up with that?

Denny Hastert did some bad stuff to some kids 30 years ago and they are busting him on some banking laws because the crimes themselves are too old.  Got me wondering about it.

Man this is disgusting.....

"We all have our flaws, but Dennis Hastert has very few," wrote DeLay, the Texas Republican who served as majority leader under Hastert in the early 2000s. "He doesn't deserve what he is going through. I ask that you consider the man that is before you and give him leniency where you can."
