Interesting next few weeks, overall the pattern is not a good one. Record warmth looks likely for the Mid Atlantic into the north east. However, cold air will be close by as almost all of Canada is cold with high pressure around. Combine this with a very active pac jet, there will be an extreme gradient. Hard to tell where this sets up but my guess would be southern Adirondacks on north. This does not mean snow, sleet and freezing rain will be possible over the next few weeks and a big league ice storm will not shock me. There will be precip chances every few days and each event could bring snow, sleet, freezing rain and rain.

I haven't skied yet this season (new baby, 7 weeks), but man it doesn't look like I'm missing much. Can't believe this weekend could be a disaster...I actually have an opportunity to get up to Whiteface. I'm hoping for a change but things not looking good. Fairly desperate to ski at this point, so may try and get Friday in before things get crazy!
Hoping to get up to LP with new baby in February, hopefully it get's more wintry by then. Can't have his first ski trip involve any r*in!
Skiing is not a sport, it is a way of life.

Forecast for Saturday says rain followed by 9 inches. Feels like one of those forecasts that will keep changing down to the last minute.

I'm starting to think Plattekill might not be a bad call on Saturday, as far as skiing in the rain goes. It will be warm at least.
Sunday head north or head home! Canada, NoVT, Whiteface? Should be interesting to see what happens.

I don’t know how to read a weather map. How does Catamount look for Sunday?

I hope your right. This has been a very mild winter so far.
Don't ski the trees, ski the spaces between the trees.

Anyone who is more of a weather expert care to make a prediction for this storm? I've been watching Whiteface's forecast and it's all over the place. After the rain Dark Sky is calling for 10-15 while snow Forecast is calling for 2 inches at the top and 10 at the base - something I've never seen before. Maybe because the cold air is moving below the warm upper air?

This winter sucks so far. |

Heard on the radio today that the rain is now projected to arrive end of day Saturday. Is this likely to be a metro/flatlands only phenomenon or could it benefit the Catskills crowd ?

Not sure but forecast has improved.
Total precip for Plattekill a tenth to a quarter inch, change of rain down to 70% from 90.
