CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS REACH $15 MILLION AT WINDHAM MOUNTAIN RESORT

WINDHAM MOUNTAIN RESORT, N.Y. (July 7, 2015) - Windham Mountain Resort solidifies itself as a year round destination by investing an additional $3 million in capital improvements this summer.   “The investment of over $15 million dollars in the last 3 years allows us to create a higher quality guest experience for everyone who comes to our Resort,” said President and General Manager Chip Seamans. “We are taking a huge step forward in our summer offerings with the opening of the lift serviced mountain bike park, while continuing to focus on improving infrastructure for the winter.”

Resort projects in progress include: a new ski trail between the east and west peaks; further investment in snowmaking infrastructure; upgrades to ski and snowboard rentals; redesign of the company’s website; renovation of the Winwood Inn/Rock’n Mexicana lobby; grand opening of the Windham Mountain Bike Park, including bike rentals, lessons, retail, and Tabletop Deli; hands-on summer camp programs for kids at the Children’s Learning Center; and more improvements at the Resort’s golf course.

A new blue square trail with snowmaking called Wildcat is being constructed in Wilderness Bowl. This is the continuation of a multi-year plan to create new trails and glades, including a trail that will connect the east and west peaks. Wildcat is the fourth new trail added to the Resort in the last three years, bringing Windham’s trail count to 54.

A significant focal point of the Resort continues to be the development and enrichment of the terrain parks. Last year’s appointment of a dedicated terrain park manager and crew resulted in massive improvements to the terrain park landscape. 2015 plans include further expansion to offer guests more variety and new features accommodating all skill levels.

A new Demo Center has been built and two-thirds of the ski rental fleet is being replaced for the upcoming season.  Guests will notice a big improvement in the selection of equipment and speed of the rental process.
Windham Mountain Resort’s website, windhammountain.com, is being completely redesigned to enhance functionality.  The new site will launch prior to the 2015–16 winter season, allowing website visitors to easily navigate the resort’s services, events and activities.

The Resort’s lodging property, the Winwood Inn, is presently undergoing a series of renovations while remaining fully operational.  Phase one includes remodeling of the interior lobby area.  Phase two will commence in the fall and includes guest room renovation.

Windham Mountain Bike Park will open on July 9th. Offering a unique opportunity on the east coast, the Park operates 7 days a week from July 9th through Labor Day, and weekends through the middle of October. Designed by world-renowned Gravity Logic, the park features two intermediate level flow trails and the more challenging Citizen’s and World Cup downhill trails. The Bike Park rental shop is outfitted with a fleet of cutting-edge Trek bikes, retail, and the indoor/outdoor Tabletop Deli.  Lessons and guided tours are also available for riders of all skill levels.  A grand opening celebration will take place on Friday, July 10th.

For the first time, the Children’s Learning Center will be operating during the summer season.  Starting July 3rd, a series of ecology themed camps will run throughout the month of July for children ages 6 - 10.  Weekend Play Care for children ages 2 – 10 will be available through September 27th.   “The Resort’s location in the Catskill Mountains is the perfect spot for outdoor summer day camps,” said Antonia Beckmann, Director of the CLC. “The ecology-themed exploration programs provide children the opportunity to increase their creativity and foster a love for nature at the same time.”

Golfers at the Resort’s Golf Course and Country Club continue to benefit from the yearly infrastructure improvements. Since the acquisition of the public/private course in April of 2013, the Resort has invested over $2 million dollars into the property. The bunkers have been renovated and re-filled with fresh sand and the tee boxes have been reconstructed resulting in noticeably improved play.

The Resort offers additional year round amenities including the Alpine Spa and Yoga Center, Mulligan’s Pub, and multiple venues for hosting weddings and special events. For more information on all of the events and activities Windham Mountain Resort has to offer, please visit windhammountain.com or call (518) 734-4300.

I'm sticking with Hunter for another year.  It looks like Hunter is doing some snowmaking improvements this year.  I will stop by to check out that new trail though.  Since it has snowmaking, unlike most new trails added at a mountain in the next mountain range north, I should have no trouble finding a day that I can ski it.

The next thing on the list should be a 6-pack heated bubble lift to replace the dreadfully long and slow base to summit triple.  If one of those goes in, I get a pass there.
I've lived in New York my entire life.
