Thanks! Shot on a Canon 60D with either a Tokina 11-16 f/2.8, Sigma 17-70 f/4 or Canon 70-200 f/4L.

The Shane's turned the lodge over to the current owners, Jenn Life and Ross Olson, back in the early 90s I believe. Elfriede is still up here every once in a while.

A few shots from today

Great Shots tBatt.  Looks like you were in my neck of the woods for a bit.  What did you think of Leavenworth?  Did you get a chance to ride Xanadu?

Re: A Little To The Left

Leavenworth was a pretty cool town. I was only there for a night, the morning ride, then headed off to Bham. I was looking for somewhere to camp, so I stopped at a raft shop in town that had a bunch of raft guide looking hippies out front and asked where to camp. They pointed me up Icicle towards Bridge Creek. The spot across the river was pretty full so I kept driving up the road, only to find one of my co-workers camping up there. I had a slight idea he was in Leavenworth, didn't know where he was gonna be, though. Small world! The landscape there is super dramatic, very cool! I haven't really spent any time in the North Cascades other than driving back to NY from Seattle on 90 and this quick drive through. I'd like to do some more spring ski mountaineering up there. One day.. The bike ride was the Freund Climb to Rosy Boa with a bit extra due to a wrong turn towards the ski or xc ski area.

Awesome... Freund Canyon is a cool spot. This is what you missed on Xanadu:

FLOW - The Elements of Freeride from North 40 Productions on Vimeo.

(Not trying to thread-jack... just think this video describes the ride perfectly... it's really something special, if you pass through again, you should put this on your list)

If you ever pass through again, look me up. I'm semi-retired with lot's of time on my hands. I'd be glad to partner with you for a summit or 2.

nepa, I'll take you up on that if your time and my travels line up.

Cold weather must've kept people away for the weekend.

Heh, that's lightly trafficked for roadside LCC. It's a zoo out there.

Nearing the end of a week plus of high pressure. Not much pow to be had, but the steeps are filled in and (mostly) stable.

I just picked up a couple 30m dry lines, so Hank and I spent yesterday trying different snow anchors to rappel off. At five this morning we left for the Y Not coulior - a 2900 ft chute topping out at 50° and entertaining a 40 foot rappel in the middle.

How do we get to the anchor? If we have ropes, we probably won't need crampons

Good stuff!  I'm headed to Tahoe this weekend and a ski mountaineering techniques course was one of the options I looked at.  Would have been a nice chance to break out the ax, crampons, ski crampons and learn a little bit about ropes.  Alas, I went soft and booked a spot on a snowcat.
