That was interesting. Maybe others can add tales of other such ADK guides of yore. The book " Hiking the 46 high peaks of the ADKs " has some tales of those guides. This is an excellent book for those interested in the ADKs. Loaded with tales and background info along with actual hike info for each peak. It's really good.

Ever since my mom would tell stories of she and her siblings going to visit a hermit on 11th mountain I've been fascinated by them. There's a good book written by a local here in CNY about a ADK hermit Foxey Brown.
