Danzilla mentioned it in another thread, but I thought I'd highlight it here.
Basil & Wicks opened last Wednesday in the former Casey's location across from Stewarts. We stopped in yesterday (Sunday) after skiing. I have to echo Danzilla's comments: 1) the food was VERY good and reasonably priced as well, and 2) you can only order off the bar menu until 5pm. We got there around 4:30 and were a bit surprised at the 5pm thing, but it worked out fine. I suspect they'll adjust that policy. I sincerely recommend the place. BTW, I lived in North Creek from '89 - '92 and remember the original Basil & Wicks ![]() |

Over the past few days I was there twice. I thought the burgers, which was what I had were good, and priced reasonably. Fries were just ok, on Thursday they were under cooked and Saturday the portion was skimpy. Pretty good beer selection at fair prices. The staff were friendly. Service was decent--there was room for improvement, but it was opening weekend, and the place was busy, so I'll make allowances. My only real complaint is that over the mens room door in the bar there is (shining into the bar room) a very large bright green neon Heineken sign. What's up with that? Aside from conveying a subtle message about Heineken beer that I believe is well deserved, but probably not what the supplier of the sign had in mind, its brilliant green light causes everyone and everything in the bar to take an odd green aura.
Maybe they're trying to be an environmentally friendly "green" bar. ![]() |

The cashiers at Stewarts are we ring sunglasses because the glare from the green monster sign is too much for them! The bar menu seems to be a bit lacking. The menu is skewed more toward pricey dinners. They are a start up operation so let's hope they fine tune they're menu and operation a bit. The current menu may be adequate for après ski business, but the year round residents won't sustain the place as it is so far. I think everyone wishes them well and hopes they are there for a long time, but they may need to fine tune a bit...sooner than later.

Basil & Wicks has a new chef and an updated menu. Most (maybe all?) of the original dinners are still there, but they've expanded their pub menu. More burgers and sandwich items, generous portions. Very good. Worth a stop if you're passing through.

Their parking lot was packed a few nights ago! (Thursday, maybe?)
Glad to see they're getting some business, even when It's not ski season. Let's hope it stays that way. |

We've found the service to be excellent, and the setup to be very family friendly. Zelda is constantly suggesting we go to Basil & Wicks because they really welcome us with a 5 year old.
Curious to hear the locals take on B&W. As the previous owners found out, you need to make nice with both the touristas and the locals to have a chance at survival.

I ate there once last winter and liked it.
I preferred the atmosphere in the bar area to the dining room, which felt like a big, open mess hall. |

We ate there about six times last ski season and found the service to be excellent and the food, for the most part, very good. Always seemed to be busy on a Saturday night but never much of a wait for a table. A really great addition to NC. Not too many places in NC where you can show up without a reservation and get a table for 10 or more. We also love the Black Mountain restaurant. But you'd better get there early to get a table.
