Brighton, UT 12/15/13

The high-pressure system that's parked over the Wasatch ain't moving, at least not while I'm here, but I had a great day at Brighton doing high-speed laps on buttery groomers. Here, I'm below the Great Western lift with Mount Timpanogos in the distance:







Mountain host and amazing boarder Joel Boomgarden gave me a nice overview of Brighton's underrated terrain, which sometimes feels like a big East-Coast mountain (twisting rolling trails through dense trees) and other times like classic Wasatch Front (on the Millicent and Great Western chairs). To give you an idea of how people here tend to pick a mountain that feels right to them and make it their home, Joel has ridden hundreds of days at Brighton since 1997 and only seven days (!) at other SLC mountains.

Brighton doesn't get as much attention from destination visitors as the Little Cottonwood areas, but it's a really fun mountain that deserves a spot on your SLC itinerary. I'm going back for more tomorrow, the last day of this trip:
