I understand operating costs and all that stuff but they're in the skiing business

You see, that's your problem. "They" are not in the skiing "business". They are managers and employees of a state funded recreation facility, which at times is presented to the citizens of NY as a profit making business, to make matters easier for those taxpayer funds to keep flowing in for the next budget year. As long as you look at it that way, you'll be a little happier. A little.

I told this story once before, but, I'll repeat. Once I was there on a Tuesday after it dumped over a foot the day and night before. Both the North Quad and High Peaks chair weren't running. "Why", I whined to a patrolman. "Because it's Tuesday", was his response. "but, but....." I blubbered. "Because it's Tuesday", he said again, sternly. Oh, I said to myself. I get it.

Wasn't THIS fact known when you bought the season pass ?  If so ? what's the problem ?
For those of us that have kids - does anybody have Friday, Feb 17 off? My kids' days off start Monday, Feb 20. In my 30 years of working, the Friday before Presidents day/week has never been a holiday.
My kids do have Friday off.  It's a superintendent's conference day.  Many schools have two days off for the President's Day holiday.  Most of those probably have Mon/Tues.  How many other schools have Friday off, I don't have a clue.  Teachers have to show up to work on superintendent's conference days, otherwise we would be heading up to Placid to start our trip on Friday.

That said, I agree that it is cheesy and sleazy to make the Friday before President's Day part of the Holiday period.
