Crystal Storm Chasing, Day 2, 3/12/16

Booted up, heading out.  Plan is to ski the resort today, Southback should be great.  Would love to head back to Buillion Basin and its' many unspoiled splendor, but not alone.  Of course....if I see anyone else heading that way!

Went to bed with rain at the base, woke to snow.  Reporting 3 inches up top, and it's going to snow all day.  Might not be too many storm day pictures.

That right there is boot top to knee deep soft powder....right next to the lift, at 10:00!!  

Sure, it's lower angle, but wow.  I started out thinking 'What's wrong with these freaking people!?"  However, while I could go back for more laps in there I'm moving on....other places to go.

The sun made an appearance, but the snow is back.  Chair 6 to the summit/Southback is on wind hold.  Checked in with patrol. They are still doing control work out there, but when they are done I'm free to don the skins.

Throne Chute B.  40 degrees of untouched goodness.  That kind of day.  Other aspects in Hamburger bowl had deeper, softer powder, but it'll do!  

So, Southback is closed.  Windy and puking snow, the avy danger is too high.  I could skin into Silver Basin, but with the state of the weather and my legs I'm just not up to it.  I did want to play around a bit, so I donned the skins and cut a track to gain a shoulder inbounds, so as to play in the trees a little. I'm kinda hooked!

Last run of the day, other than the cruise to the base.  Horseshoe Cliffs area of Northway.  







The 50 degree chutes here are some of the steepest in the resort.
