Gore Workers Laid Off in Transfer
LAKE PLACID NEWS Lake Placid, N Y Thurs Apnl 12. 1984 NORTH CHEEK — Employees of the Gore Mountain Ski Center were laid off April 1 as officials finalized details in the recent transfer of the facility to the Olympic Regional Development Authority. The state Department of Environmental Conservation, which transfered the mountain to ORDA April 1, laid off the employees in March, officials for the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) told The News The CSEA is a state-wide union that represents municipal and state workers, including Gores full-time and seasonal employees, plus dozens of employees at the Olympic venues in Lake Placid and nearby Wilmington. The DEC gave our people lay-off notices and the opportunity to bump less senior individuals from DEC facilities in other areas in the state, said Ross Hanna. CSEA field representative for Warren County and parts of Washington and Essex Counties "In other words, seniority counts. If the workers want to transfer to another DEC facility in the state and have the seniority to do w. tht\\ can "What we're talking about is not a termination situation. Mr Hanna said. And the layoffs only affect the full-time workers. The approximately 130 seasonal workers are not affected, but they work only part of the year anyway "Though seasonal workers at Gore are generally laid off each spring after skiing season, the CSEA and ORDA will work to negotiate terms of employment for both full time and seasonal employees, Mr Hanna said Before the ORDA takeover. Gore employees had contracts with the DEC Full time workers and seasonal workers had separate agreements with the state "ORDA and the union have agree to discuss the takeover, although we haven't met in person yet, ' the CSEA representative said this week " CSEA has been in contact with Carl Mastnanm (ORDA's Assistant to the President) We've outlined our concerns with the takeover from the CSEAs standpoint."The union says it wants to assure that all Gore workers - both lull time and seasonal who want to stay at the mountain will have jobs "Obviously our biggest concern now is keeping the poeple working at Gore working in the future. We also pointed out differences in the contract ORDA now has at Whiteface and the contract the DEC had there, so we can discuss those with the transfer now. officials are unsure whether they will opt for a contract similar to the one workers at the Whiteface Mountain Ski Center have, or design something new. "We're not sure what we'll do. Mr Hanna said "But we don t anticipate the negotiations to take too long, whatever we decide We're all trying to make things as stable as possible "We've been working with the DEC since January when we learned of the planned transfer, and with ORDA since mid February "ORDA officials say the call-back procedure for Gore employees will be patterned after the one used to hue back employees at Whiteface after the DEC transfered that mountain to ORDA in October. li*82 "It will be the exact same procedure as the one used at Whiteface, ORDA spokesman Don Krone told The News Every single employee is laid off The employees then make the decision whether they want to work for ORDA or go elsewhere. |
These are current ORDA Wages. They do not have a step system so the starting wage is also the job rate. Does anyone know what DEC Belleayre workers are making?

Welcome PowderBlue. I don't have the numbers. I've heard general statements like:
"Shifting from DEC to ORDA full time seasonal skilled employees (not cafeteria staff) salaries would go from $12/hour down to $9/hour." ...but I can't verify that information.

FWIW....Last week I saw one of those Union heads on the news. He stated the layoff process for NY employees now takes 16 weeks.

Those wages are from April 1st 2008. Union ORDA workers have zero wage increases since that time. None in 2009, 2010 or 2011. Their heathcare premium contributions have increased.
