Finger Lakes Backcountry 1/30/11

it was time to dust off the AT gear and earn some turns. The last few weeks we've had a good amount of snowfall. Not all at once, like on the coast, but enough lake effect snow to freshen things up daily.

Today was another snowglobe day. Steady light snow for most of the day, followed by sunshine in the late afternoon.

Our friend Carl has been clearing trail and making skin tracks for the last couple of months, so we got to see his handiwork.

Those woods look like home to me. Can you give a general location?

If I tell you, I will have to kill you...or that guy in the photos will kill me. He skis there every weekend and has been a little bummed out that someone else we know has told people about it and people have shown up.

The glaciers did a number on our mountains, grinding them down to shadows of their former selves, but they did create excellent ravines too. And waterfalls -- very few places can beat CNY for the number and quality of those.
