Two beautiful sunny days. Saturday it stayed pretty chilly and we skied a lot of high speed groomers in the morning. Lies softened up and we did a few laps. Topridge was also softened in the sunshine. The woods never softened. It was really great to be flying on the mountain on a bluebird day with Darkside Shaman and the North Creek Rippers.
Sunday started off cool and we started the day cruising the groomers until the sun did it's job.
Chatiemac and Rumor, both trails that saw no snowmaking this season, skied really well and were the highlights. They looked nothing like they did last year at this time.
Rumor
We did 3 runs on Rumor and 2 on Chatiemac including a run in Straightbrook Glade. It gave us the itch for more trees. By 3pm we went over to the darkside to see how the snow was softening there. We skied BBA while Jay and Russ skied KHS. We all concured that it was skiable, but not quite ripe. Lower Darby and Hullabaloo had been groomed and had finally softened.
I skied like it might be the end of the season. With the weather forecast ahead, the ski season looks like it could be cut short. No big spring dumps in the forecast. There isn't much base and with rain and warm temps, the skiing may not last long. I'm still hopeful to return, but I'm not holding my be breath and skied hard until the end of the day. At 3:30 I felt more thirsty than I was tired. That beer on the deck was oh so good.
I'm feeling that I'm at the top of my game and I don't want to be done skiing yet. My knees are feeling really good this season. I want to keep using them. I'm not ready for the change of season just yet. Daylight savings is here, so it's time to start thinking about winding down, getting the bike out or traveling further for snow.
