Correction on my previous answer: Sorry...brain cramp. 4 : wrong country 5 : correct country / wrong ski area. I know a few people know #4 on the Harvey Road. Not sure if I'm the only that skied there, but it is known by people here.

4 : Alyeska?
its got to be somewhere that is alpine with no trees but close to the ocean. Pretty much leaves BC but you said wrong country, Alasaka, or some where in Sweden or Norway. I love this - its fun. I see Scotty has created name this pond off shoot of this too. Once we get Pat's I'll dig into some photos and post another one.

Nope...Not in BC, Alaska, Sweden or Norway. It's a couple of hundreds miles from the ocean/sea. What you see is a lake.

I'm going to be away from a computer tomorrow...hopefully enjoying a few turns.
Clue for #5 (they are a few given in response to Coach Z). Here is another clue: The ski area is on the lower slopes of an active volcano.

#5 you got me totally stumped but I'm leaning toward New Zeland due the vulcano clue On #4 I thought that Termas de Chilian was the only ski area in Chile that was not above timber line so I did some googling and it looks like this one has trees - Corralco

#4. Cerro Catedral |
In reply to this post by Z
Bravo Takeahike46er.
There are a few lesser know ski areas that aren't entirely above treeline. Altitude of areas are lower and trees are present further to the south. Yes...Cerro Catedral near Bariloche (Patagonia), Argentina Now for #5: <quote author="Coach Z"> You're getting way colder. Your first answer was off by only 300km approximately.

Pat you said #4 was in Chilie. Your clues are messing me up
#5 has me totally stumped - within 300k of Cypruss but not in Canada as you said wrong country and volcanic is got to be Cascades of Washington or maybe very nothern OR. I just looked at a map and then followed up by looking at web sites - I see some ski area by lakes but none that are not treed. Cyrstal in Washington has alpine above tree line sections and its on a river not a lake. I also looked at Big White and Apex in case I (or you) got the clues messed up but I don't think those are active volcanos. I give up. Where is it?

Multiple pictures and clues...this feels like MasterMind.
I revisited my clues, only screw up once and corrected 1-2 posts later. ***************** You initially mentioned Chillian for #5. I said it was in the same country within 300km (via roads, it is approximately 430km according to Google). So odds it is in Chile...but 300km can take across the border in Argentina, but not sure of the ski areas there. There is only one lift below treeline, all the other lifts are above. There are a few ski areas on volcanoes in this country, but this one is the best known. It is on an active volcano. Sometimes you can see it smoke. It is one of the country most active volcanoes. Really popular for volcanoes climbs, one of the most popular volcanoes climb in the World. It does look like the Cascades which is the reason why I choose it. This place is cool to ski, but liftserved is somewhat limited (5-6 lifts off the top of my head) mostly limited to the lower slopes. There was a previous ski area in 1948 that was wiped out from an eruption. The last eruption (which included lava flow) on this mountain was in 1984. I'll give the answer around lunch.

Not a place I was familiar with until you provided the latest round of clues... #5 Pucon-Villarica Ski Center |
In for the win again. Here is some info on the place...not a place to spend one week for liftserved if you're a good skier. Terrain is pretty tame. There are a bunch of things to go around (see TR from 2008) Touristy things around Pucon and one run before the ski area closed. http://madpatski.wordpress.com/2008/09/01/pucon-chl-august-30-08/ Bluebird day in 2010: http://madpatski.wordpress.com/2010/09/08/ski-pucon-cl-6-sept-10/ Volcanoes climb attempt - didn't reach the top due to low visibility: http://madpatski.wordpress.com/2010/09/08/volcano-villarrica-cl-7-sept-10/ Definitely a cool place...you can see the lava inside the crator (if you make it to the top). One of the place that you put on a bucket list.
