Re: How many is too many?

Ok, Here's my first attempt of a ski helmet paint job. I'm not unhappy with it. After the clear coat cures, I will sand it with 1000, and polish it for a shiny mirror finish. Probably should have bought a new helmet for the number of hours I will have into this.

That is some good work Ethan. I wonder if there’s a market for that?

Need a ruling on this one. I think it’s borderline

Platty trailmap?

You should print them on a sticker and sell them in George's shop!

Re: How many is too many?

A Platty trail map sticker is a good idea, but getting  large enough sticker to conform to a round helmet is a trick. I thought there was something nice about having it painted into the helmet and buried in 6 coats of clear coat and buffed flat.

In retrospect I should have added another layer to outline the mountains. Painting a helmet properly is a lot of work, and I made some mistakes. If there is ever a next time it will come out even better.

I like it the way you did it. There’s a simplicity to it that is of value in and of itself. The hardest part of being an artist is recognizing when you’re finished and purring down the brush.
I’d say you hit it out of the park there Ethan.

Could be a bumper sticker or roofbox.

It's definitely an inside joke so to speak but anybody who recognizes it would know it immediately and be woah cool that's what I thought.

Yes
My reaction too. Plus it just looks pretty. It’s an elegant design. If you add much more, it might get too busy and lose something.

For the record, I am not an artist. My brother is the more artistic one, and this outline came from a piece that he created for a media arts class in high school a couple years ago.

So the credit goes to him for the artwork while I simply traced it out of a shipping label and sprayed paint over it.

Who is and isn’t an artist is a pretty fluid concept. You and your brother collaborated to create something. Be proud

If it serves no functional purpose, it's art.

I was once told that each bumper sticker lowers the value of your car by $500.  If true, this guy is in violation of his own sticker; the one next to "ski the face."

I never thought of Matt as art - thank you for enlightening me.

^^I agree. Or at least limit the name calling to PoliticRap.

I like this definition of art better:

"the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination"

You didn't consider your amp to be art?

That's someone's definition of art.  I just heard it somewhere and thought it was interesting, if not a bit comical.

Amps are definitely art.  Maybe not in the look, but their sound.  They are truly part of the musical instrument.  Electric music has a lot of art infused with technology.  I guess you could say every music has that unless you are just using your voice, because you engineered something to make the sounds.
