Where are you from?  I suspect you did it to keep the water clean, not because you actually expect to swim much anytime soon?  I was thinking the other day as I got the water off my pool cover...boy, this is gonna be a bad year for opening.  A few years ago we had some really early warm weather (but nothing anywhere near as warm/early as we have this year), and the water was rank when I took the cover off.  Really, sewage and dead things all in one smell.  It took a week for it to filter and clean up, but it did and was crystal the whole season.  I always hate opening early in the spring before the leaves are in, as keeping up with all the pollen and other junk that comes out of the tree is a lot of work, and then you don't even get to swim in it.  I'll take the stinky water and filter changes for a week.
