Apparently a few landowners on Crane Mountain Rd in Johnsburg have been asked to install culverts to accommodate for excessive rains in order to prevent future washouts. Now that the road has been washed out multiple times and they still haven't installed the culverts, town officials are turning to the landowners of the area to fund the repairs.
Pretty insignificant compared to adjacent landowners part, but I'm going camping at Crane Mtn Pond this weekend. Now instead of the 3/4 mile hike from Crane Mountain rd., We have to lug all our gear up and over the mountain from the other side.
""None of them are full-time residents,” Hitchcock said. “They [property owners] live out of state, so they're around to see how much damage it causes."
According to Hitchcock, the fix in all three cases would be as simple as installing a wider culvert or drainage pipe to handle overflow of streams and ponds on the property. That would have cost a few hundred dollars, far short of the $50,000 taxpayers are now on the hook for."
