Jiminy Peak 11-29-2015

I was skeptical that Massachusetts could deliver today, based on what I was reading about the mountains further north but it turned out to be a good day. They advertised 9 trails and 3 lifts with top to bottom and they were not lying. We started the day with hard cookies rather then the corduroy I was hoping for but it softened up as the day went on. There were a lot of rocks and dirt to avoid but no place that required walking and no crazy choke points. In fact they had enough open to put together five different unique routes top to bottom plus their learning area. Over all, I can't complain considering I got to ski in November in southern New England. And my boys have bragging rights at school tomorrow ... Sunshine all day. Temps reached 40 , it wasn't at all crowded and the vibe was laid back.

That's great!  Sounds like the did better than most of the mountains up north

What Jiminey peak pulled off was absolutely amazing! I skied there on Friday when it was 60 degrees. I was staying at my grandparents near Pittsfield for thanksgiving, so not going to Jiminey would have been dumb. By mid-day I was hopping over ditches of running water, and above-ground snowmaking pipes across the trail. But that only added to the fun. I could see that the base was thick enough in places that some grooming would have them in business until cold nights returned. The mountain actually had A fair number of people on it and I think they had a successful weekend.
I'll take boilerplate ice over wet snow any day

Jiminy is definitely one of the most underrated mountains for snowmaking in the northeast.  They consistently put out a product and a season length equal to or greater than most of the southern Vermont ski areas.

Agreed, they did beat out the Catskills.  They sure are a lot better than Powass's description as a "half size Okemo with absolute ripoff prices for what they offer".  Actually, I'd say their terrain is a step up from Okemo's.  I should really go there more often.

All in all, I think Jiminy is pretty good, especially considering where they are. They have some steeper stuff right in the middle, under the main lifts, they have great snowmaking, lots of lift capacity (too much almost), nice facilities. But they still have a compact, central base area that makes it easy to gather up a group at the end of the day. I feel a lot of nostalgia for the old days when I learned to ski there and their big lift was the riblet triple. The tickets are expensive but they're expensive everywhere now. When I was younger they had a lot of specials like Ladies Night, Men's Night, Mass Night, NY night... I should have asked when I was up there if they still run them
