Headed out around 8:45. The skies were supposed to be clear, but the drive in was pretty gray. I kept hearing on EQX that more clouds would be moving in possibly rain. I was already in a bad mood (it was a LONG night) and that didn't help much.
I got there around 10:45 and met up with Condor who came in from New Hampshire. He hooked me up with a free ticket, we suited up, and got out there. It was still pretty firm with a nice layer of ice on all the bump runs.. which were closed anyways. K1 and Snowdon were the only peaks open. A kid in the gondola said he learned a new term to describe conditions. "Glazed doughnut" is when everything has a glazed layer of ice on it. That was a new one. The first two runs were spent on Great Northern, just cruising a nice long run. The snow wasn't quite corn yet, but was softer as you dropped in elevation By our third, the sun burned off pretty much all of the clouds. We met up with some Gore locals that Connor knows and they showed us around a bit, specifically the woods off of Little Dipper. They had gotten a dusting the night before which blew in to the troughs between bumps. The first few runs through there were REALLY nice, until the creamy new was all scraped off. We ran down and got some food around 12:45, when we came back it was full on bluebird. Everything was corn by then and the bump runs were opening up. We skied just about everything that was open and a few that were closed. I've always heard about the VW beetle-sized bumps on Superstar but had never skied them. They were pretty ridiculous. I think in a good way. Connor wasn't the biggest fan. Check out the Straight-lined tracks. They looked exactly like that for about half the elevation of the trail. Later we met up with one of Connor's knuckledragging friends from the area. We took a few run with him and hit the park a little bit. I wish my last [lift served] run of the season was down something other than the park, but I'll take it. Tuckerman Ravine will probably make it close to July this year, anyways. We went up to Killington in March and almost everything was open. It was also a high of 5 degrees however, but it was a crisp dry cold..we stayed at the Mountain Meadows Lodge, which i highly suggest..its literally right across the street from the access road and the staff was very welcoming. It was my first time to Killington so I didn't push myself as much as I should have and stayed on the greens and some blues...oh well..there's always next time..
