Mount van Hoevenberg major makeover

Be still, my beating heart.  Are World Cup races to be had in the future?

Big news. Does this set NYS up to go after another Olympics? Also, What's entailed in a biathlon stadium? I thought that was conducted out on a trail some place.

The way the Olympics are so big and glitzy nowadays, I have to wonder if LP is "big enough" in the eyes of the International Olympic Committee to host an Olympics.  No disrespect to LP.  One of my favorite places.  Mt van Ho will be hosting the cross country events for the World University Games in a few years.  I do think World Cup biathlon or cross-country races are possible.

The biathlon stadium will have a shooting range.  They ski a lap, come in to the range, shoot, and head back out.  The first Olympic biathlon in 1960 had 4 shooting stations set up around a 20 km loop.  This was modeled along the lines of an event called military patrol.  Unsure when it evolved into the current format.

Have to agree Peter. How the Olympics are currently I don't see them attempting it.

The long play here seems making Mt Van Hovenberg and the rest of ORDA's Lake Placid properties competitive again with Salt Lake City and getting national and maybe some world events back in play.

The cost of putting on the Olympics is prohibitive these days.  For the 2022 Winter Olympics there were only 2 bidders: Azerbaijan and Beijing, China.  Beijing won the bid.  The area where they'll have the games is cold but gets almost no snow.  Azerbaijan has the snow but IOC deemed them an unknown quantity.   I guess hosting the cross-country World Junior Championships doesn't cut it.  Beijing looking to run the events on virtually 100% machine made snow.

Countries that have hosted the Winter Games in the past e.g. Oslo, Norway; Stockholm, Sweden; and Munich, Germany withdrew bids due to cost concerns or lack of local support.
