New Hotel coming to Lake George, NY

Plans to build a six-story, 120-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel and conference center in Lake George, New York cleared the last regulatory hurdle, a project that's expected to have a big impact on tourism in the village.

The Adirondack Park Agency gave final approval, with conditions, to developer David Kenny's plans to build the $15 million to $18 million hotel.

Kenny expects to start demolishing several vacant buildings on Canada Street south of the high school in September to clear the area for construction, said Mayor Robert Blais.

The hotel is expected to open in spring 2016, bringing with it demand for year-round hotel rooms and conference space in a village that becomes a virtual ghost town after summer tourists leave.

"We've already gotten some calls here from people interested in booking the conference center," Blais said. "We have no doubt this will spur other development and keep us competitive. The village needed something like this very badly."

The hotel is expected to employ 60 to 70 year-round, plus another 65 or so at the height of the tourist season.

At six floors, the 72-foot-high hotel also will stand out on Canada Street, where no other buildings are taller than three stories. The roof line will be visible from the Northway miles away, according to the APA, which regulates development inside the 6-million-acre Adirondack Park.
