Big Sky opened for the season on Thanksgiving. I got to the lift at 6:30am. I was late. The people who got there at 5:30 got the first chair. I settled for second chair. This is Big Sky's 40th season and they turned the opening into a marketing circus. We were on TV( KXLF.com ).
They managed to get the Bowl and challeger open early and the coverage was pretty good. I had rock skis on but I don't remember hitting too much. The snow that's on the ground now will be a bad layer later on but it skied OK. Crud skiing along with wind affected firm stuff. The trees held some nice powder but it is scary thin in the woods.
My friends and I made it out to a couple of the gondolas. Next time out I'll try to remember to take a picture of the " Med Shack " where it says in big red letters... " Powder Queen was Here!"
