Even as we head into mid-April, choosing the right day to get some spring skiing in is important. Saturday was cloudy with light snow and temps in the low 30s at Plattekill. Sunday was sunny and cloudless with predicted temps in the mid 60s. Guess which day I chose.......
White gold in a sea of brown
By 8:30 it was already a cloudless 52 degrees. It did reach the mid 60s.
Blockbuster and the Sunshine Triple going up the Face
The snowmaking trails were groomed and in beautiful shape
Northface double going up a mostly groomed Plunge and Giant Slalom
Soft corn groomed into velvet cord at the Top of North Face
North Face
Plunge. The winding trail on the other side is the green Powder Puff. It was still open and had excellent coverage.
A high percentage of skiers were on teles today
I ran into ML at lunch - I was coming in and he was going back out. We never ran into each other on the trail.
There was a ton of snow coverage all over the mountain
Freefall was not groomed - it was the best afternoon trail
Shorts and Hawaiian shirts were popular attire
The classic view with Bearpen in the distance
Shadows are long at 4:30
I was the last to load the double before the ski patrol. I slowly savored the last run down. On the deck I was greeted by ML holding out a beer for me. We hung out on the deck with a few friends and basked in the warm sun. Laz was enjoying a frozen margarita with us. It was a nice cap to a great day.
