What to do when we have cold weather but no snow?I finally ordered a pair of nordic skates this year. What are nordic skates you ask? They are skates which;-are only a wooden platform with blade attached-let you clip your XC ski boots onto them-have much longer blades (17.5")(which lets them glide effortlessly over all sorts of bumps and holes!)
The big claim to fame is the long blade which lets you ski on natural "wild" ice and think it is as flat as can be. Another nice feature is to put your boots on in a nice warm place, walk to the ice, then clip on your skates- no putting boots on in the cold!I tried these with my classic XC boots and found myself wishing for lots more ankle support. I could skate (barely), but I felt very wobbly. I will see about a cheap pair of skate boots.Overall, I liked them and the glide very much.
I bought them from a guy that has written hundreds of articles about XC skiing;

I also notice he has an Ebay store set up that you can buy through.One note- these are real steel- so dry and oil or grease the blades when you are done using them!
