I was at Gore last weekend. By Sunday morning there were pretty nice mounds of snow on showcase and lots of guns going. Snowmaking on hawkeye didn't start until around Noon. Hawkeye, which is pretty steep opened today, yet they are still making snow on Showcase and it isn't opening for tomorrow. Why does it take more time to open Showcase than Hawkeye given the cold temps this week?
They will also likely groom Showcase before opening it and this wasn't done on Hawkeye. Hawkeye also had more natural snow on it before snowmaking began there.
It seemed like last weekend there was WAY more snow up high on the summit than down below. I think you could have skied all natural on hawkeye and chatty last weekend if you had rock skis and the desire to hike.
Wonder if they would open chatty on all natural if we get some snow tonight.
