An excellent day at a mountain I haven't skied before!
I was going to be up in Northern Vermont for MLK weekend and would have the 16th to ski. We were staying in Newport so that meant deciding between Burke or a Quebec area. I made the decision to ski Bromont as it was an area that has expanded tremendously in the last decade, looked to have interesting terrain, and was about 70-80% open. First, the highways (Route 91 to the border, and 55 to 10 in Canada) were awful. Days after the last snow, they were still ice packed and slippery, with only one lane "clear", the other snowpacked. I will never complain again about how NY state maintains their roads! Bromont is quite the place, and I highly recommend anybody to check it out. It now has 7 sides (versants), so you can literally ski all around the mountain. 5 were open, the only two that weren't were Versant du Midi and Versant de la Cote Ouest, both on the "back" side. They were making snow like crazy over there so they should open soon. The vertical is listed at 1200' and that is correct. On Google Earth, it is only 800' - but that's definitely not correct. I'm not sure why Google Earth is so wrong. On a few sides, American cities are used for names of the trails. I thought it was interesting to see trails named Albany, Burlington, Syracuse, Detroit, Boston, etc! Versant du Soleil is a beginner/intermediate pod with some easy glades. It has a Partek Quad which is unique. Versant du Village is the main mountain, with most of the expert trails, good steep fall run type trails, served by a high speed quad. There was a long line for the high speed quad all day. In fact, the whole mountain was very busy for a Monday, and not due to MLK day which of course is not celebrated in Quebec. I can't imagine what its like there on a sunny Saturday! Versant du Lac is served by a HSQ with a good mix of cruising trails. Versant du Epinettes is a served by the relocated Mont Joye quad, another nice mix of trails with beautiful views. Versant du Cantons is a longgg fixed grip quad with intermediate cruising terrain. Least busy part of the mountain. Ticket prices were $51 when all was said and done when purchased online, it would be about $60 at the window. Note - taxes are extra unlike U.S. mountains. We did not see any US license plates in the parking lot this despite being only 45-60 minutes from the U.S. and being cheaper than other VT mountains. I'd love to go back to ski the back trails, there is certainly enough variety here to suit any skier with trails from all peaks for all ability levels. Jeremy-NELSAP

Bromont is definitely a popular place -- the closest 1,000+-vert mountain to the Montreal region. Amazing how many trails they've cut there.

Bromont is also the night skiing capital of the eastern hemisphere. I've driven by it several times at night, on the way to Jay. The hill is lit up like a Christmas tree.
