I guess I meant that the hour and a half ski movie that a company works on all year then takes on tour the following fall is sort of dead. It just doesn't make a ton of sense with how much is on the internet and readily available. These guys (STE) seem to have a cool formula without the hassles of creating a full length film every year.

I'm going to be watching to see how the 2018 Matchstick movie is received. Will be the first time that a team of women will be featured. As opposed to a token woman in a quick clip. The May 2018 Powder article notes that there are more companies that sell stuff for outdoors activities have started special marketing campaigns aimed at women.
https://www.powder.com/stories/news/three-women-go-alaska-film-ski-movie-matter/ " . . . The still-untitled film, which will debut in September, will spotlight four men--John Collinson, Mark Abma, Wiley Miller, and Cody Townsend. Five women are slated to appear in the film--Collinson, Michelle Parker, Elyse Saugstad, Ingrid Backstrom, and Tatum Monod. . . ." |

What is interesting MARZNC - is since Alicia started narrating - our male viewership has dropped significantly. Before it was all men and some women - now its all women. Which is very interesting. We were given some advice to mix it up between all of us to keep people of all likes interested. We too are curious to know how this film will do.. Those skiers are all incredible athletes...

Ray, how strong is the correlation between the narrator change and the audience shift? How much data is there?
If YouTube does demos the way Google Analytics does it, it's behavioral, based on the content you viewed. Facebook on the other hand gets "sex" and "age" from almost everyone. Google gets it from some but not nearly as many. GA is only able to tell me age and sex on 7% of our audience. NYSB FB demos: https://nyskiblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/NYSkiBlog-Facebook-Demos.png How does AA compare?

I'm sure I'm in the minority with this but my fav ski movies were always Shane McConkey while playing Saucer Boy. It wasn't about skiing, it was funny ass shit. He would totally rip on himself and all the other badass skiers of the day. To me, after a while, the skiing part gets boring and repetitive it's the humor that makes it good. Glen Plake would do some of the same as well.

one smart move is to give away stickers when they ship goods. I just realized today I have one on me hard hat. Must have put it on year or so ago. Funny thing is, guys always talked about skiing around me.

I agree. I would include Warren Miller in that too (the man himself, not WME)

Absolutely! Warren had an incredible sense of humor. Some great one liners.

Ray, how strong is the correlation between the narrator change and the audience shift? How much data is there? Well I am basing it off the trends we are seeing of YT, for Facebook, things seem relatively similar to when we first started, though higher percentage for men and women my age.. If I got back to 2014-15 - it was mainly men, wide age ranges on YT From 2016 to now - its 63% women and 37% men from the age of 45-54 and nothing else. Which is odd considering we know many young people that follow us and kids -pre-teen through teen that comment on stuff we make... Maybe it's just not enough for YT to calculate.. How does AA compare? Ours looks the same as your essentially - though we have more women - not much more -actually on Facebook, its the exact opposite of YT data - 63% men, 37% women.

Wow great analogy, the Mets, yes it is sweeter when they score. I've told this story many times but here it is again. Once was on a lift at Squaw Valley after a great week at Tahoe, talking to a middle aged guy next to me,[I was the older of the two] things had stiffened up badly , as the day before was unusually warm and temps had dropped to the teens, said "oh well, I've seen this before back East" and he proceeded to rag on Eastern Skiing, I replied "hey I've had good days back East and bad days out West, it's still skiing, and it's all good", to which he replied , "yeah well no one takes a plane to go ski the East" I turned to him and simply said " well there are some advantages to skiing back East" with a smug smile he replied "yeah what"s that", I said "way less assholes" , rode the rest of the way in silence

I can't count how many dozens of times that or something similar has happened to me, really annoying. If someone pulls that on me, I just go on about how much better the Alps are than anything out west. Usually shuts them up.
