Small trailer and what to pull it with?

Hey camp, isn't there a Subaru engine that fits in those old Westfalias? Seems like if you could find a VW in decent condition & pop a relatively new engine in it, you could get away with a nice rig that will run for a while.

Yea, the 2.5 ---- i think there's an actual conversion kit available now

2 of our master techs are really into this kind of stuff. One of the guys has an old bug eye WRX with an STI motor in it. The HP to the wheels in that thing is off the charts crazy.

The one I really like is this one ---- one of our best body shop techs built this for his son to take to college. Totally cool.

There were a few others for sale out there but the others were basket cases. Too bad the good ones are always out West. That thing would likely be a pile of rust if it lived it’s whole life in NYS

For sure. Unless you found one in a barn somewhere it would be dust, or at least full of bone.

My plan is to attend a Mecum auction to buy something like that. Don't need the camper aspect but I won't fight it if it's there.

This is a calculation that a lot of people don't seem to make.

A bit tougher once you have a dog you want to bring, though.

Exactly the calc I did.  Looked at this last fall in Old Forge (MM) and while it is cool, it is definitely overpriced. $5k maybe?  Still that is 50 nights at $100 each.  The options are nice for adding bike rack/kayak rack to it.  Just can't justify.  

Anybody use the Yakima car top tent? Also looks intriguing but lose the ability to park in the garage without removal.
