After getting in late to SLC and driving up to the Condo we rented in Eden we decided to get a late start and hit up Snowbasin for our first day in Utah.
After a few warm up groomers we skied some cold smoke powder of the North facing bowl on the Southern boundary and then my ripper son wanted to try the Lone Tree Chute that I skied a few weeks ago. He went first and skied it nonstop. His comments were that it looks much scarier than it really is. A Patroller saw him ski it and then offered up other suggested lines to try.
The best of them was what they call No Name Bowl on the far northern Boundary off of the tram. You need to hike about 5 to 15 mins per lap depending how much of it you want to bite off. It started as powder but as the sun warmed it up it turned into a creamy pre corn snow. We did 4 laps on that on either side of lunch which required a HSQ and a tram lift ride and the hike per lap. You couldn’t ski that drainage all the way down as it was frozen up in the shade but the patroller told us how to catch a cut over to the downhill course half way down.
We had the mandatory fantastic lunch at the nicest ski lodge anywhere with the best food by far. The amazing thing is the prices are reasonable for the food. We ramped down the day with some small soft bumps in the trees. It was a good first day to the trip.
Stay tuned for more on our trip including some amazing cat skiing.
