Weird thing is that a benevolent dictator would probably make all the same decisions that the APA/DEC makes, it would just be quicker.

I was thinking of starting a new thread ("If you were a benevolent dictator, what would you do?"), but I'm sure everyone would leave everything pretty much as is, with a few small changes (like letting people clear underbrush for backcountry lines, etc.). Everyone except snoloco, of course, who would send the acreage limits up to 11,000 (making for 360 degrees of skiing on WF and Gore), put high-speed 6 packs up a few backcountry slides, and put an indoor waterpark with roller coasters in Wilmington.

Deadline for email is this Friday.

If you support backcountry skiing in the Adirondacks, please make your voice heard!  The APA is accepting comments on the SLMP amendment process through December 5.  Please send an email (if you haven’t already done so) in support of APSA’s proposal to:

SLMP_Comments@apa.ny.gov

You can use the following template, or write your own:

Dear APA Planning Director Regan,

I want more access for backcountry skiers in the Adirondacks! Please consider the Adirondack Powder Skier Association’s proposal for an Amendment to the State Land Master Plan to promote low-impact backcountry skiing.  Backcountry skiing is an environmentally friendly, traditional use of the Forest Preserve that deserves to be legitimized in the State Land Master Plan.

You can also mail a written copy to Kathy Regan, Deputy Director, Planning, PO Box 99, Ray Brook, NY 12977.

Please also consider attending any of the 4 public listening sessions that the APA has scheduled.  The first of those sessions was held Weds night in Ray Brook, I plan on attending the Albany session on Nov. 17.  Click here for the list of times and locations.

Thanks!
