Survey Monkey Spammers

This post was updated on .
I've been buried at work and a bit of a slacker as a mod. Apologies.  Hope to be more available starting next week.

I'm thinking about treating these survey monkey guys as spammers.  From what I can see this guy isn't a known source of spam.  But WTF, no intro, no nothin, here's my link, do my survey and you'll never hear from me again.  Not exactly community minded.

Was thinking about a rule that says no links in your post. First five posts?

Want to hear what SBR thinks. Other opinions welcome too.

Survey Monkey Spammers

SBR had an idea, thought I would throw it out to the forum.

On an MTB forum he's on, you can't start a thread until you've had 5 posts.  I'd be shocked if a spammer would go to that effort, but I could be surprised.

What do y'all think?

I'm working with the developers to push the 5 post rule idea forward.

If anyone can think of a downside to it, please share.

I banned the sunglasses guy for posting some nonsense in my TR about Plattekills Facebook Day. I think I'm going to put together a primer for new members that is linked in the welcome email.

RULE #1 DON'T MESS WITH THE TR FORUM. No slack for that.

Got to get this crap under control.

The guy with the survey on kids also posted in Alpine Zone, but gave a much more detailed explanation.  Not totally sure how to handle that one.

I haven't seen the survey monkey spammers you're referring to.  But I agree with those who suggest that one who wants to post a survey should be a regular contributor in the forum.  Information privacy - what's left of it anyway.

Very close to a solution on this. It looks like it's not going to be a hard and fast rule, just that a mod has to approve the new member for posting links or new threads.  I think this will give the most flexibility.  If someone like Laszlo (Plattekill owner) joins and wants to post a new thread, the last thing I want to do is give him a hard time.  Still it should slow down new members from southeast asia who are promoting chemicals to improve... you know.

Going to see how this works:

NEW MEMBER NOTICE

If that only serves spammers to post in existing threads, I'll take it to the next level - no replies to existing threads until approval.  Hate to do that, hope I don't have to.
