Hey Warp, haven't heard any chatter about the River from you this year. We are headed up Friday for the long weekend, staying about a mile up from Oak Point. With the water being at record high levels our friends have not had their boat in this year. Bringing our kayaks and bicycles to keep entertained. The riding between there and Hammond/Black Lake/Morristown is fantastic. Just have to watch for horse poop on the shoulders!

River has been high but levels are down from the very wet spring . Great summer up here we havent had rain in over 6 weeks so water is warm .We were at the Cape for 10'days in June m, then the whole family including college aged grandkids were here for 10 days in July . We were in the River most days so you should have no difficulty .

We leave Saturday for 2 weeks on the Gold Coast of Maine and the beaches there ,

Hope u guys enjoy yourselves , oh the main dock at OAk point on the bay was a victim . The peninsula is fine and they appear to be reconfiguring the deck surface so we didi not swim there but other beaches around are fine . have fun !!

Watch the manure on those bike excursions on side roads l

I alao i bike 2/3 days a week too when im not golfing but have an in town circuit on some bike and walking pathways near the Bridge and Park  and along the Oswegatchie  River so its poop proof

Maybe a dumb question: how does a high river prevent boating?

Not an expert but I imagine submerged docks,, concealed hazards and lots of extra floating debris?

Why don't they use floating docks?

Almost all the docks are permanent with cribbing underneath. Don't know if it has to do with the current or possibly the ice.

Since proposition 2014 The International Joint Commission has been EFFING with water levels on the Seaway ( The RIver) and that  includes the GREAT LAKES system . They also EFF with the levels thru the dams and locks between here and Montreal to HELP MONTREAL ( to everyone elses' expense , our levels are raised )

We had issues in 2017 but THIS year was horrible compunded by the incredibly rainy spring and early JUNE .

Harv : DOCKS were underwater till mid/ late JULY , we lost use of our municipal docks they are just now being rehabbed from 2017 .i saw Cabin Cruisers parked on top of submerged docks . Remeber THIS is well over a THOUSAND MILES of huge water system here , and with wave action it can get tough .

EXAMPLE :

I have a buddy who has a cottage Right at water's edge here ( he inherited it was built in the early 1940's ) For decades there was NEVER any water level problem . After the 2017 flooding ,he commissioned an engineering firm that RAISED THE COTTAGE  3  feet last year  . This season his first floor of living space over the newly raised cellar was flooded . And his boathouse was flooded out above the internal slip levels.

This GD IJC has been a PIA to cottagers between Lake Ontario and the St Lawrence .multiple marinas and waterside reaturants and resorts are hurting . Business in A Bay is down 10 per cent .Things must change
