Val Bialis (Parkway Peak), 2-13-2017

SkyRider
I hate seeing my little home town hill on the missing trip report list so I'll be the first. Situated in the heart of Utica, NY - its glory days are long past and it is rarely open these days even after a big dump like this past weekend. Since its only a few miles from my house, I often skin over there on week nights during/after a storm.
We got about 12" on Sunday so it was time to pack a few beers and slap on the skins for the trip thru the woods to what we affectionately call the Parkway Peak. Of course it wasn't open which was fine with us since we had the place to ourselves and got in several laps on the massive 400' vertical in fresh powder.

Very cool, skied it 25 years old, and run in the summer up to and around that Eagle with the Utica club (the runners not the beer).  Only ski hill in city limits in USA.

Nice! I ran up it this fall - I was huffing and puffing pretty good.  I run up Fort George Hill in Washington Hts. 2-3 times a week which is similar but paved so much better traction.

Yup me n John boy ,his sister  his mom "the Queen of the Hop "ran this puppy on our xc  skis  .  Awesome run on skinny skis  , but Johnny being a damn flyweight who only knows ONE speed flew off that last big bump on the fall line likea it was a launch pad bwaaaa

Was so glad he wasnt hurt and seemed to RELISH  the flight , had to go right out THAT day and get the lad some new Rossi's
Morale of the story , haven't been able to catch up to him on skis since  .

We also  ran the hill on THIRD hole at Valley View Golf course on them skinny suckers , that too is a  really kewl descent on a decent grade
Life ain't a dress rehearsal: Spread enthusiasm , avoid negative nuts.

Good pics! The craziest thing is that this area had a high speed detachable sideways loading double - in the 1960's!

Awhat?  Sounds like Timothy Leary designed that lift.
Sent from the driver's seat of my car while in motion.
