I'm with Jason: ski till you are tired, completely satisfied, or need to go for some reason. Sometimes you just know that it is time to stop. In 50+ years of skiing, I've never thought of adding up vertical feet, though I do sometimes count runs.

I think you mean "you have a different definition of skiing" than I do.
May I refer you to the OP

Re: What’s a respectable amount of vertical for a day?

This thread got me thinking of a guy that skis at Greek that I follow on Trace. I don't even know who he is...Attached are his tracks and stats from March 10th last season. Every run off the quad...

that has to be sun valley. The challenger lift on the warm springs side is 3100 vert and pretty consistent steepness. I have done over 50k there a number of times. You can see people on SG and DH skis.

Some variables might be worth mentioning. Such as, 20k of groomer vert sure ain’t 20k of bumps and trees.

Re: What’s a respectable amount of vertical for a day?

^^Right.  I think I did 7-8k of pow vert at snow ridge one day. I didn't measure it but I figure 500 per run maybe 15-20 runs. It was a whole day of fun including the hiking.  I'd take that over 30k of vert an steep icy any day.

Can someone please explain the appeal of racking up a lot of vert. It's a sincere question.

Speed is fun I get that. I also like pulling up half way down, looking around, chatting for a minute and taking it in.

That is one reason I love Plattekill. I never feel rushed.

There is clearly an appeal as so many focus on it. I just don't understand.
