I have not skied La Grave but from what I have heard its Chamonix without any pistes - just a huge expanse of steeps and powder. A good guide would be mandatory as the penalty for mistakes is potentially death. It would be risky to plan a trip solely around La Grave since in a bad snow year there is no snow making or grooming.
