Whistler Blackcomb?

jimvdak
Hi all!
Been a while since I've been on here, but I'm going to a work event in Vancouver and I've arranged an extra day and a shuttle for a day trip up to Whistler in 2 weeks! Any suggestions, cautions, or advice?
Keeping in mind:
-Only one day
- I'm an "Advanced" Catskills skier (I can ski all the blacks at Hunter, Belleayre, Platty)
-First time skiing outside of the Northeast
Thanks for your help!!

Driving?  Buy a lift ticket in Squamish at the 7-11.  Double check, but they've sold discounted lift tickets in the past.

Go early.  It's a solid 2 hour drive.  The Sea-to-Sky is a gnarly road.  Take the tram once to see what you get for a $45M+ lift.

The Garibaldi Lift Co. is where most locals hang out after.  The Whistler Brew Pub had a thing where if you said, "we're some of the good guys" it meant you were local.  One of the guys I was with was asked/answered where he worked.  This was the password for getting 25% off your food & bev.

Ski the upper mountain.  If you see a sign for the Sudan Couloir, go elsewhere.
Sent from the driver's seat of my car while in motion.

when you decided you had enough for the day and decide you are going to ski to the bottom take another run up high and take the Gondi down.

Personally I strongly prefer the Blackcomb side to the Whistler side.

Watch out for bad vis (which happens very often) you get in the middle of a bowl and then the lights go out and you can't tell which way is down.  If that happens stick to the trees in the mid mt zone like the Crystal chair pod.
if You French Fry when you should Pizza you are going to have a bad time
