Spent a long weekend at Whiteface staying at a house we rented in Lake Placid. We were not expecting much as it poured rain 2 days before we got there and the golf course in Lake Placid had a sign for Sleigh Rides but looked better suited for golf. When we arrived at the mountain there was zero snow in the woods. It did not look promising. Started off on the gondola where we heard the skiing was better than folks expected, that seemed to be the theme for the weekend. On Friday they were blowing snow on the main intermediate trails off of Little Whiteface and under the Face Lift. If you did not mind the guns those trails were fairly good. Skied a couple of runs off the summit which were groomed and edge-able. Snowed a little bit Friday night and Saturday which whitened the scenery and helped a little Considering the winter we have had I thought the mountain did a great job grooming nand most runs were open,
We usually ski at Gore and Whiteface is a very different mountain with long trails with a continuous pitch as opposed to Gore's more narrow rolling terrain and lots of glades (when there is snow in the woods).. Both are fun but in different ways
