After 4-6 inches of natural snow and firing up the guns on over 9 trails this morning, temperatures have modified and our snowmaking efforts are now focused on Upper Whistler and Upper Wolverine, Warpath Chute and The Wall. Hopefully the forecasted higher elevation temperatures will allow us to stay on up there through the weekend. Our next opportunity for lower terrain snowmaking looks to be sometime Friday evening and through the better part of the weekend.

Our plan is to have the snowmaking system running every chance we get and to open Saturday when conditions allow. Snowmaking will be in progress and it will most likely be terrain for higher/advanced skiing & riding abilities. Please keep checking in with us for further updates. Apparently the start to this season is not for the faint of heart!

We'll see you on the snow!
- Beth

They mention not being able to hit the lower terrain, but the webcam tonight is showing otherwise...

New update as per this morning from their website (looks like Sunday is going to be best bet...):

December 9, 2011, 9:22am
Resort officials have just completed a trail inspection and while we are still hoping for a delayed opening tomorrow, our projected Saturday opening is questionable. We are feeling more confident about our ability to be open on Sunday. We were able to make snow top and bottom last night, adding to the 4-6 inch base Mother Nature helped us out with on Wednesday night. The temps have modified since daybreak and the plan is to resume snowmaking on lower elevations late tonight and through much of the day Saturday.

Upon our opening, please be aware that early season conditions on the mountain will more than likely be ungroomed and snowmaking will be in progress. The conditions will more than likely be better suited for higher skiing abilities. We'll update you with our projected status and conditions later this afternoon.

See you on the snow!

Snowmaking and Operational Update

The anticipated opening of the mountain is Sunday, December 11, pending favorable snowmaking temperatures between now and then. We received 4"-6" of snow this week and have been making snow whenever possible. When we open, it will be with early season conditions, which means fun terrain (ungroomed trails), goggles recommended (snowmaking underway) and variable conditions (recommended for advanced ability levels). Stay tuned as we do whatever we can to make it happen. Once we get open, we will stay open as long as conditions allow. Check our Mountain Report for updates.

Skied Windham today, and it looks like they might have a hard time making it to next weekend. The Upper portions of Wedel, Wolverine, and Wheelchair were holding up, but the grass and dirt is encroaching fast on the lower slopes. Good corn snow up high and slush down low.

Skied Windham and not Gore today as my daughter Sarah and her Irish dancing school performed at Windham today.  Bright sunshine and blue skies had me skiing in shorts for the first time ever!  Very slushy and rapidly melting.  Still some nice moguls up at the top with three lifts running.  Lots of encroachment from the sides with some pretty narrow parts, thought their center feature trail has good coverage.  Sorry that I don't know the names.  Puddles forming in the afternoon.  Nice little mountain!  Doubt they'll make next weekend with temps forecast to be in the high 70s, maybe even 80 this week!
