Wordle

Wordle is this cool "word cloud" tool that creates a graphic representation of what a website's content. The more often a word appears the bigger the word will be.

Blogs are kind of funky because the content on the home page changes often so the word cloud will change.

Here's one I did for Harvey Road:



Click the link above and drop any URL in there and check it out.

Kind of weird, because I think it just takes your home page, regardless of what you put in as the reference page. I just cut and pasted all the text and I got this for March:

I think "Share" shows up a lot because it appears on every post.

Yeah, like I said, I think that's just to front page . . .

Which kind of has a lot of weird stuff on it right now.

That is totally cool. Clicked "random" a few times for my blog, it does seem to pick up what is on the most recent post. Here's a cool one I got for Blue Toes' blog intro

       

The way a blog works, the only content that is really at your home page URL:

www.nyskiblog.com
www.jonnyjay.blogspot.com
www.skiequalsmc2.blogspot.com

...are the posts on the first page.  All other posts are housed only on their own URL.

It seems like you get a more realistic representation of your site if you use the FEED URL.

Would love to see those word clouds bigger. How did you guys make them so small?

How did you make them so large? Screen shot? I got the small size by cutting and pasting the embed code provided after posting to the Wordle galley (where there is another SBR!!!).

they gotta remove some common words from consideration, such as "along", "new", etc...  then we'll get a better picture

It looks like the program only displays words of 4 characters or more.  Also looks like there is no "they." Just a guy who wrote a program and put it up on the internet. There doesn't seem to be any revenue model associated with Wordle.

Ran this one on today's blog post. Weird how it's mostly about today's post but has some other things mixed in:
