Here's the best I could do on a map showing the major players:

Plattekill and BobCat

Google maps shows the distance on the road as 18.7 miles and 40 minutes.

As the crow flies, based on the scale of kilometers the distance was about 8k or 5 miles.

Close up it looks like even less:

Plattekill and BobCat 2

Yep, they look very close together.  Given their orientation, you can't see one from the other (however, as mentioned earlier, you can see Plattekill from Belleayre).

FYI, there's a large north-facing aspect to Bobcat that's completely undeveloped (and has much better snow preservation, obviously).  I was taken over there by a patroller in 2004 and it appeared very similar in vert and steepness to Hunter West.  Another "if only..." part of the Bobcat story.

This looks to me as if it has to be one of the bobcat t bars. Can't be that many 1964 t-bars in new York...

Bringing back an old thread.

Bobcat really fascinates me. People in my area don't really talk about it much, but anyone driving through the Catskills on 28 can't miss it. The place isn't a joke compared to a lot of the small lost ski areas in New York. Every once in a while, I try to find a place where I can get a better view of it. There are lots of back roads in the area, and there seems to be a dirt road that actually goes to the top. I haven't figured out exactly how to get to it without crossing through someone's farm, but I want to figure that out next.

I recently found this private property owners association called "Tunis Lake." It's located between Andes and Delhi, and the houses are built into a rather steep hillside facing South.  In the valley below all the houses is "Tunis Lake" which appears to be a manmade lake which was originally just a river. They have a dock, and a swimming area with picnic tables and  Basketball court in the Summer. As you can see below, it has a beautiful view.

The location of this development is fascinating to me. Not only are the houses facing South, but they are facing directly at Bobcat. I wonder how many people living there are familiar with Bobcat's history, or if they just like looking at it?
