Funny thing, I had a fun day that day, skiing...
Of course you did. You’re a skier

If you have some input, I'd appreciate a comment under the piece so Mike gets the impression that somebody read it.

Great stuff!

What does DMA mean here?  As an old techie, Direct Access Memory is what comes to mind but obviously that's wrong.

"What percentage of your skier visits come from New York?

We look at DMAs more than states. For example, we do about 22% of our business from the Boston market and about 30% of our business from the NYC metro. I’d estimate we do about 20% of our business from New York State in total."

Ah, hence knowing NYC and Boston but having to guess for NY State.  Wonder if that means CT gets combined with RI.

Found a definition from 2014 with an example map that shows a NYC DMA with northern NJ counties, as well as one in CT and one in PA.  Makes sense as the way to decide where to focus advertising dollars.

I know CS is against the front page on principle people but the rest of yous maybe show some blog love!

Brownski knows what I'm talkin bout.

DMA is a US specific term that was created by Neilsen (TV ratings company) to help sell advertising.  Probably should have changed that to "Metro Area" as that would be understood by more people. Metro areas are similar to DMAs but not exactly the same.

The NY DMA includes 21 counties in NY, NJ and CT.

I'm not against the blog - I just don't have anything particular to those specific articles to talk about.

Killington is far away and not something I can do in my foreseeable future.  Same with Platty.  Maybe when my kids are older assuming they get into and like skiing, I'll have more input for these kind of things.  Right now, it's very intangible to me.

I forgot the NY DMA also includes one county in PA:

Some of the DMAs out west are really wild. Denver includes parts of Nebraska and Wyoming.

Basically it is where you get (or got in the old days) your TV.
