Visited VINS in Queeche Vt today, saw these guys up close.

I particularly liked their owls. I find owls very interesting and beautiful animals. They had several species, bards, great horned, snowy, screech...

Is that a "Great Blue"?  I think they are pretty common by rivers and lakes in the Northeast.  I used to live right by the Susquehanna river up by the NY border.  There was a rookery of Great Blues in a stand of Hemlocks that I had on my property.  The birds look cool, but sound awful.  They make some pretty strange noise when defending their nests from intruders.  When the eggs hatched (early June), there was a nearly constant whine coming from the young (wont,wont,wont,wont,...).  It would be so loud that I would have to close my windows in order to get some peace & quiet at night.

Sick Bird Rider
All the seed-eating forest creatures are enjoying the bounty of the feeder this morning. The one deer is pretty relaxed considering that I have already released the dog twice, just to keep them on their toes.

Using the old school trail cam (tracks in the snow) there is a solo ,big round hoof, toe dragger in the neighborhood.
Tele turns are optional not mandatory.

Re: The Bird Feeder

Sick Bird Rider
Talking to a nice couple at work, after they returned their rental snowshoes (I manage an outdoor store). They had done a few trails in the park and were keen on feeding birds. They were telling me how cool it was to feed the chickadees, and how cute the chipmunk was, but, according to them, the blue jays are aggressive. In fact, and I quote: "those little birds, they are douchebags!"

Ahhh, the blue jay, douchebag of the bird world.

Cool cam shots, Skimore. That canine definitely looks more like a wolf than a coyote.

I watched a great documentary on Netflix a year or so ago, detaileing how the coyotes have filled in the Wolves' niche in the eastern U.S. and hybridized/evolved into a bigger more wolf-like coyote as they did. Wish I could remember the title.
