Topic Answers

Many people seem to answer the questions they want to answer instead of the question that was actually asked. I think they just want to talk about themselves which I guess is just human nature and harmless. However, sometimes it's so blatantly obvious I'm kinda embarrassed for them, but at the same time I think, "What the f**k is wrong with you?"

Yes, please try to focus on the topic, as I know I'm not the only one fed up by the inaccurate reporting of NoVT snow totals!

I think that about all but a couple of the people in here.  Out of the couple people I know what is wrong..so that leaves like.

So HPD you taught , am i right ?  IF that is true you know the answer .  Many simply do not listen effectively and there has been So much emphasis on building self esteem , that the culture is now  like an Opera singer ... Me, Me , Me .

Yet the majority seem to have the attention span of a fruit fly , coupled with the fact that many do not listen effectively because they are so busy with self absorption trying to blurt out a response , no matter how inane or seemingly unrelated it may be . Harmless , well maybe , but effective  meh and often more confusing than amusing .

No wonder our congress is a mess and unable to communicate and cooperate , tooo damn many egoists at play ...end of rant

I don't think I explained myself well.

Let's say the question was what do you think the hardest trail at Whiteface is? I'm talking about the type of guy who will answer with trails he has skied at different areas around the world or maybe terrain he's skied in the back country.

Why?

I don't want to name names. I'm not looking to start up with anyone or cause hard feelings.

Cause he's got an agenda, something to prove, to himself maybe, uses every chance he can.  Not asking to name names, just thinking of one guy in particular

Yeah, but no one cares, no one is saying to themselves "Wow, what a guy".

I'm starting to wish I didn't start this thread. I'm thinkin it was pretty passive aggressive on my part. I was in the mood to be on the forum today, but I should have started a better thread.

No need to feel that way. I found it trenchant and thought-provoking. Too many people lack the capacity for self-reflection and critical, adaptive thinking. They don't listen effectively (as WD notes). They just wait for their turn to talk. For the most part this just passes in normal conversation like smoke in the wind, but when an example of it is posted on a forum, it just sits there, forever, for all to see.

Unlike conversation, the unresponsive response - the total non sequitur - can be tuned out, like static. Just do that.

Or a tangent starts and rather than start a new thread for it.....

Or the original topic gets all yapped out, so things drift.

Or the original topic was lame and the tangent's more interesting.

Or some dickhead gets rude and a war starts.

Or Snowballs busts a mega funny.....

Hehehe, that guy's witty.

Lots of types/agendas in a forum, passive aggressive is one. Check it out I'm incredibly smart. My life is better than yours. Lurkers. Marketing. Some stokers too
