Whiteface Conditions (2012-2013)

p.s...have skied the mountain during conditions ranging from sweet to horror over the past 37 years.

I went for a day trip today (3/13).  A lot of snow was gone with yesterday's rain, but what was left had great quality, and the groomers did a great job! In particular, conditions on the upper mountain were outstanding, skyward probably the best (temps were around 30-31 F all day long there, and light snow all AM). Some bare spots becoming more frequent starting mid station and down, and things look brownish at points, but it was mostly an aesthetic as opposed to a major issue.

If temps do not deviate from seasonal too much, and no more major rain event, even with no new snow, mtn should be fun for at least 5-10 days, no horror. Have a few "legit "pics below (3/13). It was an awesome day.

Thanks for the update gkny - especially the pictures!  Maybe that will calm everyone down a bit.

I see that Hoyts is/was closed.  Hoping that is related to grooming/freeze conditions and not lack of snow.  Hoping to make a trip up there next week with some buddies.

Just checked the trail report online.  Looks like we took a big hit down to 56 trails.  Most notable we lost Mac, Lower Skyward, HH, LOB

I'm in Boston for work this week - Scotty or someone up there can you let us know if these are down for the count or just until it thaws out as they are not skiable after refreezing.

I'd really hate to lose HH for the season - I'm falling in total love with it as a spring skiing mecca.

def just a grooming thing.  freezed hard Wdnesnight/Thursday - which means we'll hold snow!  Mac, Lower Sky, HH will def be back open.

Bump.  Everyone too busy skiing up there?  How's it looking?  How'd you make out from the storm?  Any glades/slides action for Friday?  Inquiring minds want to know:)

I was there Tuesday.  3 to 6 on little whiteface and lookout and 8 to 15 on the summit.   First chair last chair no breaks in between.  It was awesome. 2nd best powder day of the year for me.

We made out great!  Upper mtn was the ticket yesterday.  Tuesday was empty so lots of blanks to track up!  

Upper mtn picked up an easy 15-20 of nice dense pow!  Nuked up there all afternoon on Wednesday so upper sky was flat, soft pow every run.  

Tuesday was the better day for cloudspin.  Skiers right was untracked and we got to farm it.  Yesterday, I was getting knee to thigh deep drifts on skiers right!

Great storm.  Not a top 5 all time type thing but a great storm which is gonna set us up sweet for this weekend.

Slide 1, 2 and 2B are not in play but 3 and 4 may open once it warms a bit.  

Glades were closed both days.  We got great tracks down Victor's Vortex (first shot in cloudspillter) yesterday.  Wind blew a ton in there!  Lots of stumps and rocks lurkin though so duck w/ caution.

this weekend is gonna rock!  temps in mid 30s and sun.  just what we need!

All that snow and the glades arent open?      Coming up this weekend, that's kindof disappointing to hear.

I don't think you will be disappointted.  Still snowing.  Temps to go up.  Surfaces will soften and the coverage is awesome for the third week in March.

it doesn't look like it will be anywhere near the 30's on Saturday.  It looks like its still Winter.

what are the odds the slides reopen, a couple of crooked numbers :) ?

It'll probably get into the thirties but not by much and it may be near the end of the day before it does.  Up high it may never get that warm tomorrow.  Might be a little gusty.  Dress warm.
