My son and I just checked the Whiteface summit observatory.  It's -33 degrees with a 47 mph wind out of the southeast.

I didn't get my sorry posterior out of bed until 6:45 but Saranac Lake was "only" -19.

this was not an ideal setup to get saranac lake super cold.  If this airmass had a night with clear ski and no wind given how low the dewpoints were, then you could see a -30.  In this setup, the mountain tops were coldest, brutal night on top of whiteface.

I checked WF temps around 5:30a and they warmed up from the temps around 10:00p. Wind was still 49mph.

I'll say.  The temps and wind on WF last night are comparable to conditions found on Everest.
