Pretty cool story from today's ATU:
Twelve-year-old 'natural' in stride
Liana Alford arrived at her first track meet wearing the Nike running shoes, black Spandex shorts and turquoise top her mother bought her the night before. The sneakers were actually men's, but they were on sale.
Alford noticed the other kids were wearing official uniforms of their school teams and running clubs.
This wasn't a possibility for Alford, seeing as the 12-year-old had no team or club, not to mention neither experience nor training.
Her first race at the June 18 USA Track & Field Junior Olympic Adirondack Association Championships wasn't just her first race of the day. It was actually her first race -- as in, ever.
First up was a preliminary heat in the 100 meters. She won easily.
