1980 Olympics at WF

Grillman
I noticed that Harvey posted video from 1976.  Does anyone have anything from 1980?  Other than those hockey games and speed skating events.  (teasing)

It would be great to find something showing the men on Cloudspin....the ladies on Sky...and then sights of the men's GS.  Hard to believe they went down that trail.

just a new idea that doesnt mention areas in the state south of NY or saftey devices protecting trees.

Hahaha! Good one. Great idea, too.

No doubt some private footage exists but has it been converted to digital ? Hopefully some pops up. Wonder if the ORDA peeps have some.

No doubt!! Every time I ski there I always shake my head and the thought of tucking Cloudspin, I would explode!! There's a reason they had the Olympics there, WF is the real deal w/ sustained steeps and vert. One of the many reason I love skiing there.

I like that they left remnants of the Olympics on the mt, starting shacks, and the scoreboard. Kinda spooky, now sitting cockeyed on the mountain. I hear you Çamp, I'll never forget my first time at the top of Cloudspin, I said aloud, "Wow, that's a whole lotta steep!" To which a guy replied, "The downhill guys go straight down this part, and then turn down there." Boggled my mind.

That's where I would blow up. No clue how those guys can hang on like they do.

Those guys and women have massive core strength as well as leg strength.  I'll see you WF and raise you Mt van Hoevenberg.

I'm interested in seeing more of this stuff too!  I've always been interested in the Olympic history up there, it's one of the reasons that I love going to Whiteface and Lake Placid.  I always take some time to just suck my surroundings there and I can just feel the history in the air.

Thanks for the link Harvey.  Man he looked like he was holding on for dear life there a couple of times!
